Invitation to Fast 2021

21 Days: Mon, Jan 4 – Sun, Jan 24, 2021

or 

40 Days: Mon, Jan 4 – Thurs, Feb 11 , 2021

 

In scripture, God promises us that He will heal each of us and our land, if we turn to Him with one mind and with all our hearts. Together, let’s humble ourselves, draw near to Him, and seek His face for His glory to be seen in our land. 

 

Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you.

As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”

John 20:21

 

Peace – To bring change to our lives, we first need peace within ourselves. During these 21 days, we will seek “things above” (Colossians 3:1-3), diminish worldly distractions, and remove anything from our lives that grieves the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:25-32). Fasting will humble us and lead us to repent with contrition and find God in wonderful new ways.

 

Purpose – We need God more than our next breath, and the Lord has sent us to witness for Him wherever we are. We will pray fervently during these days for our families (esp. young people) our country and for our own courage to serve God’s redemptive plan. He has a specific role for each of us to play and we will inquire what He is saying to us personally for the year ahead. 

 

How will we fast? To keep it simple, how you fast is up to each person. We will begin and end at sundown on either of the dates above.

 

The Bible provides different examples of fasting from:

• skipping meals during the day, or

• consuming fruits and vegetables only (Daniels Fast),

• forgoing all solid foods for multiple days in a row (liquid/shakes).

• Only rarely and in very exceptional circumstances does someone abstain from both food and drink.

 

Ask God how you should fast and please consult your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about fasting. The most important part of fasting is the humbling of our hearts to love and seek after God.
