Back to Ordinary Time (Nancy)

Sunday was the official end of the Christmas season - my least favorite day of the church calendar. And so ordinary time begins again … week 1, here we come.
My husband has been slowly (only for my sake) putting away the items under our Christmas tree, hoping that I’ll join in, and we’ll be able to put the furniture back into its usual place. So this week, much to my dismay, I am packing up all the wrapping paper and ribbons, all the candles and lights, all the ornaments, and the other special reminders of Christmas. There should be a way of making this part of the season less sad and depressing… shouldn’t there?
This January has been more sad than usual. It’s brought disappointment, sickness, and even death - to my home, my family, my circle of friends, and my church. Two years ago this month, we said our last goodbyes to my dad, so that keeps popping into my memories too. Maybe it’s a good idea to put away more than just the decorations as the season ends. Maybe I’ll try to put away those things that tried to drag me down this month- all the disappointment, sickness, and death. Because the whole point of Jesus’ coming was to
Save the lost (Luke 10:19)
Witness to the truth (John 18:37)
Take away sins (1John 3:5)
Free those in fear of death (Hebrews 2:15)
Destroy the works of the devil (1John 3:8)
This week, I hope to recall how Jesus blessed us 2000 years ago, and continues to bless us in 2020. Even though there are a few less lights in our windows, the truth stands …
I have come that they may have life,
and have it to the full.
John 10:10
Remembering what He came to do will make ordinary time anything but

ordinary!
Peace,
Nancy
