Time For A Change (Nancy)

In the letter to the Hebrews we read that Jesus “had to become like his brothers and sisters in every way, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest before God.”(Hebrews 2:17) It’s hard for us to relate to one who is both God and man. What does that really mean? We can only guess but never know for sure. One thing we know for sure is that Jesus knows what it’s like for us… “in every way.” He knows what it’s like to be tempted. He understands being pulled in all directions. After a full day of preaching and healing, Jesus is still going strong…
When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door.
Mark 1:32
As tired as He must have been, He made time to talk with His Father, no matter what.
Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.
Mark 1:35
How easily I can find an excuse for neglecting my prayer time. And I wonder why God’s will isn’t perfectly clear to me. How silly it is for me to ask His help to work out a particular issue and then to keep myself so busy trying to fix it on my own that I can’t possibly hear His advice. That shows one thing for sure – I have great trust in myself, but not so much in my Savior. Jesus understands even this tendency. He must have known what it’s like to have a good solution for a problem (He is God after all!) and want to run with it. But He always checked in with His Father first, and got His input.
This is a good time, at the beginning of the new year, to make a change. Lord, help me to set aside time in each day, no matter how busy it gets, and listen to Your voice before I charge in with my own plans. Amen.
“My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord. I know them and they follow me.”
John 10:27
Peace,
Nancy
